HISTORY
RSVP (Retired and Senior Volunteer Program) was created by Congress in 1969 and launched in 1971 through “ACTION,” the federal domestic volunteer agency.
The Yakima County RSVP began in 1973 with Yakima County acting as sponsor. RSVP moved from the County in 1996 to Providence Yakima Medical Center, and then moved again in 1998 to its current sponsor Yakima Valley Community College (www.yvcc.edu).
Current funding of RSVP of Yakima County comes from the Federal Government (through the Corporation for National Service), United Way, SHIBA (Statewide Health Insurance Benefits Advisors), Yakima County, Pacific Power the City of Yakima Parks and Recreation Department, the City of Union Gap, Yakima Waste Systems Inc., and
various fund-raising activities and donations.
